Update – As of January 14, 2022, people must be up to date in their vaccination series, including boosters. In addition, cloth masks alone are no longer acceptable. Update — As of July 28, 2021, due to the revised CDC guidelines, we are updating our procedures for entering the building. Everyone, whether vaccinated or not, will need to wear a mask in the synagogue. All will need to have a liability waiver form on file, and, if vaccinated, proof of vaccination. If you are not vaccinated, all will need a negative covid test within 72 hours of entering the synagogue. Click here to obtain the liability waiver form. Update — As of Saturday, July 3, 2021, we are updating our procedures for Shabbat morning services. We still have a virtual option. If you wish to attend services in person, you will no longer need to make a reservation to attend, and if you are vaccinated, masks will be optional. However, you will still need proof of vaccination or, if a guest is from out of the tri-state area and has not been vaccinated, a negative covid test. You will need to RSVP before each Friday at noon to boiko@shjc.org, no walk-ins permitted. Public Service Announcement: To stop the spread of COVID-19, New York State has launched a mobile contract tracing app, COVID Alert NY. We can do our part to help stop the spread of this disease by participating and downloading the app to get COVID-19 exposure alerts and help protect our community while maintaining our privacy.

Update — A letter to the congregation, signed by Rabbi Ian S. Jacknis, President Gwen Lichtman, and Task Force Chairperson Alan Lefkowitz, was sent out at the end of July, informing the congregation that our High Holiday services will be held virtually. Update — As of Saturday, June 13, 2020, we will be holding Shabbat Morning services via Zoom – check the weekly e notice to join.
Update — As of Monday, March 23, 2020, we are holding weekday Maariv virtual minyans at 8 PM Monday – Thursday, and will hold Friday evening virtual services at 6 PM and Sunday morning virtual Shaharit services at 9:15 AM – check the weekly e notices each week for information on how to join each service.
On Sunday, March 15, 2020, The Board of Trustees of South Huntington Jewish Center held a virtual meeting, and made the following difficult but necessary decisions, made to best protect our congregants from the coronavirus.
Effective immediately, religious services are suspended in order to avoid risking people’s lives, which is the highest value. Pekuah Nefesh. Please continue to look for our emails to learn when and how we will be able to return to our normal pattern. As of now, we do not anticipate these measures to change before Passover at the earliest. The SHJC office will be closed starting Monday, March 16, at 3:00 PM. Thereafter, staff will work remotely and can be contacted via email and phone. There will be no in person meetings at the synagogue. Meetings will be held virtually. We are looking into various ways of having virtual events to keep our community together. These measures are in addition to those already reported to our Religious School and Early Childhood families; school will proceed with online learning.
We are hoping this social distancing will help to slow down the spread of the coronavirus in our community and for all who we would (otherwise) meet, and taking these extremely unusual measures as our social obligation. We are family. Please also note: There are many Conservative live-streaming options in lieu of services at our synagogue. United Synagogue is publishing a spreadsheet of synagogues who are livestreaming. See the USCJ list which also gives service times. This list is being updated daily as additional congregations report. Be aware of the varying time zones if you plan to “attend” these services.
